We’d thrown our share of outrageous parties back then, but the graduation party was one of epic proportions.

There’d been a rumor going around that there was trouble in paradise between Paige and Tobi and I was determined to find out if it was true, and if it was, I was finally going to admit to Paige how I’d really felt about her.

It was probably partially due to the alcohol that I’d been drinking that night – I won’t say who snuck it in for us – that had me ready to spill my guts to Paige.

I was chilling on the couch, when Paige seemed to appear out of nowhere and plopped her gorgeous self down next to me and graced me with the most beautiful smile.

“We did it, Remi!” she shouted. Her eyes were glassy and I could tell she’d been drinking too.

“Hell yeah we did.” I said, holding up my hand. Her smile widened as she gave me a high five.

“I couldn’t have gotten through the last two years without you,” she said, squeezing my hand.

“You would have done fine,” I assured her.

“No,” she said, shaking her head. “I wouldn’t have. If I’d have failed that class last year, it would have screwed up everything. My GPA would have tanked and there’s no way I would have gotten into the college that I wanted to.”

“I’m glad I was able to help,” I said.

My eyes widened when Paige suddenly leaned towards me and threw her arms around my neck. “I’m gonna miss you, Remi.”

I slid my arms around her waist and returned her hug. “I’m gonna miss you too, Paige,” I said into her ear.

We slowly pulled away from each other, but our faces stayed close to one another. My eyes drifted down to her lips for a moment before I looked into her eyes.

“Paige...There’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you...”

“What is it, Remi?”

I opened my mouth to finally confess my feelings, but before I could get a word out, someone called out Paige’s name.

We quickly separated and looked up to see one of Paige’s friends coming over.

“Tobi’s been looking everywhere for you,” Paige’s friend said. “He’s been trying to find you to apologize. He brought a huge bouquet of flowers and everything.”

“Oh...” Paige mumbled. She turned and looked at me, seeming hesitant to get up. “I...uh...I’d better go and talk to Tobi. But what is it that you wanted to tell me?”

“Don’t worry about it,” I said.

Paige stared at me for one last moment, and then stood. “Bye Remi.”

“Bye Paige,” I said and then watched as she basically walked out of my life.
